Enclosure renovations and structural upgrades

When an existing pool cage or lanai needs more than new screen, we repair and upgrade the structure. That includes framing, gutters, fasteners, ClearView conversions, and storm damage.

When an enclosure needs more than a rescreen

Torn screen is easy to see. Bent or loose framing, a sagging or leaking super gutter, and rusted screws are easier to miss, and new screen will not fix them.

We look at the whole enclosure and tell you honestly whether it needs a rescreen, a structural repair, an upgrade, or a replacement. Our guide on rescreen, repair, or replace explains the signs.

Framing replacement and rebuilds

Damaged or worn framing can be replaced section by section, or the enclosure can be rebuilt from the ground up when that makes more sense. Either way, the new framing is engineered for the home and site.

One pool cage was destroyed in Hurricane Ian, and our crew rebuilt it completely. See the Hurricane Ian rebuild.

Super-gutter work

The super gutter runs along the house where the enclosure attaches, and it carries a lot of water. When it sags, leaks, or pulls loose, water ends up where it should not.

We repair and replace super gutters as part of our renovation work, and we check how the gutter ties into the rest of the frame while we are at it.

Screw change-outs with 410 stainless fasteners

A screw change-out replaces the fasteners that hold your enclosure together. Corroded screws can loosen joints even when the framing itself is fine.

We replace them with 410 stainless steel fasteners. Signs it may be time include rust streaks at the joints, screws that spin or back out, and loose framing. Read more in our guide on screw change-outs and stainless fasteners.

ClearView conversions

An existing cage can be upgraded to a ClearView or panoramic design, which opens up the view with fewer visual obstructions where engineering permits.

Older enclosures are good candidates when the framing is due for replacement anyway. We look at your cage and tell you what the conversion would involve.

Storm damage repair

After a hurricane, an enclosure can come through with anything from a few torn screens to bent framing, a loose gutter, or a total loss. We repair storm damage, from screens and gutters up to full rebuilds.

If your cage was damaged, stay clear of loose framing and call us to take a look. Our guide on pool cage damage after a hurricane covers what to check.

Engineering and permits

Structural work on an enclosure is engineered for the home and site and needs a building permit. We go over the engineering and permit steps for your job at the estimate.

How a project runs

Most projects need a site visit and a custom estimate. Here's the path from the first call to a finished enclosure.

What renovation customers say

Rated 4.9 out of 5 on Google.

Fantastic 5-star service from Back Water Aluminum! Austin repaired torn screens on our pool cage; he reattached and straightened wind-damaged framing, and fixed our loose gutter guards. Austin also adjusted our front screen door, which was scraping along the concrete (no more scratching). Punctual, skilled, and honest work from start to finish. We are happy and definitely recommend Austin from Back Water Aluminum!

Common questions

Should I repair, renovate, or replace my enclosure?
It depends on the framing. If the structure is sound, a repair or rescreen may be all it needs. If framing, gutters, or fasteners are failing, a renovation or a full replacement may make more sense. We look at it in person and tell you honestly.
What is a screw change-out, and when is one due?
A screw change-out replaces the fasteners holding your enclosure together with new ones; we use 410 stainless steel. It is due when you see rust at the joints, screws that spin or back out, or framing that has started to loosen.
Can you upgrade my existing pool cage to ClearView?
Existing cages can be converted to ClearView, depending on the framing, its condition, and what the engineering allows. We will tell you what it takes after a free site visit.
Do you repair hurricane damage?
Yes. We repair storm-damaged enclosures, from torn screens and loose gutters to bent framing and full rebuilds.
Does renovation work need a permit?
Structural work, such as framing replacement or a rebuild, is engineered for the home and site and needs a building permit. We go over the permit steps for your job at the estimate.
What does a renovation cost, and how long does it take?
The size of the enclosure, how much framing needs work, gutters, fasteners, and engineering and permits shape the price. We price every job after a free site visit, and your estimate covers the schedule.
